Mickie (Michael)'s Story

Life Life is a series of adventures and I guess I have had my share. I grew up in Pacific Palisades and went to Pali shortly after is opened. In fact, our house was at what ended up being the end of the football and track field of Pali. I remember my mom railing at the construction workers when they were moving all the fill dirt in to fill up the canyon to make room for the school. It was kind of like they were ruining her bit of paradise. Oh Well! I have been back a couple of times since moving up to Spokane. The first time back after many years was with my new wife Terry in 1989. We actually got to tour the house I grew up in which my Dad designed and built in 1950. That was a treat. I remember the big live oak in the back yard that we built a three story tree house in. Well, my first wife Patricia and I were divorced in 1985. One of the life growth things. I grew up and wanted a more ballanced relationship and she wanted status quo. We didn't have any kids. I was in to Zero Population growth and she was in to avoiding kids and what that entails. After the divorce and hooking up with Terry, I got kids. Terry had two daughters and we now have 4 grandkids. The only regret I have is that I hadn't found her sooner. She is my soul mate. We are both semi-retired from our long time jobs at Sacred Heart Medical Center. Now we travel around the country because I am in a second career as an independent consultant training technicians to cut frozen sections for Mohs (skin cancer) surgeons. School Well, how do I profile my school experience? A simple description of me in school is: Painfully introverted nerd. I think that sums it up. I was always into science and biology. At Pali I signed up for the Advanced...Expand for more
Biology Curriculum Study course with Mr. Small. I think that shaped my career alot. I wasn't a great student though. The last year I had two elective credit periods and so I volunteered at UCLA in the Pathology department. Those were my easy A's of my highschool career! I ended up working in the Pathology Department through my whole college years and when I graduated from UCLA in 1971 I sat for my Histotechnology Registry Exam and went to work for the Estelle Doheny Eye Foundation where I worked for 4 years before moving to Spokane. As I said, I was an very shy person in both junior high and highschool. I had several crushes. Kathy Schnable in Junior High and Jeannie Shea in Highschool. These were all admirations from afar. Too chicken was I at the time. In 1959 my Dad, Joseph McMillan Johnson, was Art Director on the movie Mutany on the Bounty with Marlon Brando. The location shoot was in Tahiti and was so long that dad took the whole family with him. It was a great experience, but interrupted school. When we returned from Tahiti I went to the Buckley School in the San Fernando valley but only made up one half year of missed school and so ended up one half year behind all my friends at Paul Reveer JH. College I worked at UCLA Medical Center Pathology while attending college. My first 2 and 1/2 years were at Santa Monica City College, and the next 3 years were at UCLA where I received a B.A. Degree in Bacteriology. During the transition between S.M. City College and U.C.L.A. I was almost drafted to go to Viet Nam. I never did go into the service. I married a girl I met at Santa Monica City College and we were divorced in 1986 after moving to Spokane, WA in 1975. No Children. I am remarried now.
