Michele's Story
Life
A few things have changed since I last posted my profile. I taught land surveying at the University of Arkansas at Monticello for three years. I quit and moved to my cabin in the mountains of New Mexico and went back to work for a company in Anchorage. I spent about 6 weeks working in South Korea. Then surveying for the Alyeska pipeline for a year or so. That was fun - got to work at locations all the way from Valdez to Prudhoe Bay.
My son has taken a job in NYC where he is a "quant". He is enjoying it. My daughter is married and is about to have my third grandbaby - Annie, Alec and Ali due in October.
I am still not sure what I am going to do when I grow up, but am considering starting my own company. I am trying to figure out how to make some money at something I enjoy and still have significant amounts of time off.

year, managing the surveying department for an engineering/surveying company. I am back in Anchorage now - taught the surveying apprentices for the union for a few months. Now I am surveying/managing the survey department for a company in Anchorage and working on some projects near Copper Center, Alaska. I enjoy traveling around. I have some ideas - just need to pay the bills and be enjoying life.
2011 update: I got my company started a few years ago and it did well in 2010. I spent 6 weeks in New Mexico at the cabin and then 6 weeks in New Zealand and Australia. I just worked for other companies this summer to save up money to be able to go full-time with my company in 2012. No expensive travel this winter. I am working on paperwork to go for Federal contracts. Not very many woman-owned surveying companies, so I should be able to get my foot in the door that way.
