Michael's Story
I travel a great deal about 80 days a year to our overseas Embassies and Consulates as a senior electrical design engineer for our U.S. Department of State. II like my work and the people, however sometime in the next five years I will retire and live at a more relaxed pace.
After high school I joined the Navy spending my first year in aviation electronic schools. My first base was at NAS Point Mugu, California, then six months in Key West (more schools) and the final years between NAS Quonset Point, Rhode Island and nine months aboard the carrier USS Saratoga cruising the north Atlantic and Mediterranean Sea.
During the 70s I spent six years working my way through college finishing my Bachelor Degree at Florida International University. From 78 till 93 I worked in the private sector...Expand for more
designing state of the art electronics for Martin Marietta, McDonnell Douglas, and during that time for three years had my own small design company.
In 1985 I rejoined the U.S. Navy accepting a direct commission and finishing my reserve career as a Lieutenant Commander in 2004.
Then in 1993 I accepted an electrical engineer position with the U.S. Government here in Washington, D.C. About five years ago an opportunity opened up and I moved over to my present position as an senior electrical engineer responsible for the design and construction of several new embassies and rehabilitation of 20 others.
My wife and daughter put up with my traveling 30% of the year to my overseas posts. We have been married since 1990 and my daughter turned 21 this year. They both are wonderful people.
