where it was to how it is now. I was always strong on eponyms—like Marfan syndrome, Freeman-Sheldon syndrome, Down syndrome, Tay-Sachs disease and so on. On rounds, the resident or student would present a patient with some particular condition, and I would always ask, so who is so and so for whom the disease was named? Who is Marfan? Who were Freeman and Sheldon? Who was Down? Who were Tay and Sachs? This prompts thought and research into the disease or condition itself to find out who first described it and, therefore, for whom it was named. --VA McKusick
He who studies medicine without books sails an uncharted sea, but he who studies medicine without patients does not go to sea at all. --W Osler
Damn the torpedoes! ...go ahead! full speed! --D Farragut
To have striven, to have made the effort, to have been true to certain ideals - this alone is worth the struggle. --W Osler
We are here to add what we can to life, not to get what we can from life. --W Osler".
