Michael's Story
Lived at Ft.Benning. Dad was in the Army. For freshman and sophomore years I got bussed to Spencer in those blue/white city buses 1974-75 and 1975-76. Loved the SHS Marching Band and Mr. Brown who directed it.
My sophomore year at SHS I tried out Track as a miler. Although I stunk at it, it was a lot of fun to be challenged and I loved being part of that team. I was pretty dorky. But the times with the team training and racing were really great and so I continued running after leaving Spencer. I really have that time at Spencer ...Expand for more
to thank, as Track and Cross Country became huge in my life.
Like what happens to a lot of Army brats, dad got rotated out of Columbus and we went to Germany. My junior and senior years were spent at Wurzburg American High School.
One of the fun things at Spencer that I remember was that WCGQ ? High school contest to see which school could get the most signatures. It really took off at Spencer and we won! We were given a Sock Hop dance at the National Guard Armory. Put on and DJ'd by the radio station. That was a lot of fun.
