Mike's Story

It has been many years now and I am finally getting around to my "story". As many have already heard, Liz Luna and I were married for 24 years before we lost a battle with cancer. She was a fighter to the end and never gave into the disease until it took her. After getting married, in Dixon, we moved back to Boise, Idaho, where I was pretending to be a college student. We lived ther until migrating back to Dixon in 1982. There we raise our family. We had three beautiful children that every parent would be proud to call their own. Nicholas was born March 4, 1979. Ashley came to us on August 31, 1983 and Haylie arrived March 22, 1998. (I know! Big Gap!) Nicholas and Ashley graduated from the illustrious Dixon Unified School system. Haylie is in 5th grade in Oldham County, Kentucky. (More on that later) After Liz's passing I moved out of town and was around the Yuba City area for about one year. During that time I was reaquainted with Tina Maiberger, who had just moved back to NoCal from Owensboro, Kentucky. We blended our families, (she has two children, Niilo (pronounced nee-lo) and Hannah) and set about the task of finding a place to raise them. After a failing to find a place that felt right, we decided to explore the option of moving to Kentucky. Tina had been there for three years and was excited about the chance to get back. Me, being a big "Okie" at heart, said, "Why Not!?!?" I put my resume on line and looked for a good fit. A development Company in Louisville expressed an interest and I was offered a position as a Construction Manager. I moved out in January of 06 and found a place for us to live. Tina and the kids, Niilo, Hannah and Haylie followed in March. Ashley, looking f...Expand for more
or a fresh start, moved in with us in May. She and her fiance, Justin, lived in our walk out basement. It had all the comforts of an apartment sans a kitchen. Nicholas is still in the Sacto area and has been out to visit. It is culture shock for him, but he did express an interest in moving out. Kentucky is Dixon 30 or 40 years ago. Family is more inportant than work and sucess takes a back seat to health and happiness. We love it here and the kids are doing well. The schools are throw backs to the day when the kids were held responsible for their actions and failure was not an option. If you don't get 70%, you fail the course. Niilo races Motocross and does fairly well. He won't be the next Ricky Carmichael, but he finishes unharmed and in the middle of the pack during most events. Haylie rides, too. She has raced a couple of times, but perfers to ride the trails with me and Tina. Hannah is a cheerleader and horse lover. There it is! I am sure there are more versions of my life are floating around. Many are probably a lot more juicy and much more interesting. It always amazed me that poeple had so little to do other than tell tales about those the knew little about. I will try and get pictures up of the kids. You don't want to see what I look like. Although, I still do have hair, I have gained quite a bit of weight. Currently working on that! (aren't we all?) I must still be hot, though, because there are three girls, on the right side of my computer screen, that all want to meet me. They are much younger than I, but what the hell! I'm a giver! That's it for now! Thanks for taking the time to see what my life has become. If anyone is out toward Louisville, we are in the book.
