Mike's Story
After leaving high school, I went into the Navy and was stationed in San Diego for the duration of my enlistment. I served on-board the USS Carl Vinson aircraft carrier where I worked as an Aviation Electronics technician. I was assigned to a squadron of E2C Hawkeye early warning aircraft. (cool video's of the planes on youtube)
I was honorably discharged in 1986.
After serving the US Navy, I went back to school and earned a vocational certificate as a "micro-computer repair technician." This was before the days of the Internet as we know it today, when CompuServe, Prodigy and AOL were in their infancy.
After completing my certificate program, I landed a job as a field service engineer working for scientific instrument company. I installed, configured, and repaired inductively-coupled plasma spectrometers all over the country. I worked for this company for almost 10 years before the company was bought out and I took a voluntary package.
Timing is everything when in search of a job. Fortunately for me, this was around the time the Internet began to catch on and it began to explode.

ata communications. After almost 2 years at Lotus I moved on and took a job at Nortel Networks. I spent a couple of years at Nortel and it was again time to move on. (I was riding the dot.com wave) I accepted a job at Lucent Technologies near Boston and this is where I have been since mid-2000.
In my early 30's, I went back to school and earned my associates degree and bachelors degree in Information Technology with a minor in Business from the University of Massachusetts at Lowell
After completing my B.S. in I.T. I decided to keep going. I was accepted into an MBA program at Southern New Hampshire University where I am now working towards a Global MBA.
I have been married twice divorced once. I am the proud father of three, smart, beautiful girls. My wife and I have a "yours, mine and ours situation." She has a daughter from her first marriage, I have a daughter from my first marriage and we have one together.
As the long-haired "hood" from middle-school and high-school, I could have never imagined the path I took in life. I made the right turn somewhere and have continued to do so ever since.
Drop me an e-mail sometime.
I'd like to see how other's have faired over the years.
