After leaving high school, I went into the Navy and was stationed in San Diego for the duration of my enlistment. I served on-board the USS Carl Vinson aircraft carrier where I worked as an Aviation Electronics technician. I was assigned to a squadron of E2C Hawkeye early warning aircraft. (cool video's of the planes on youtube) I was honorably discharged in 1986. After serving the US Navy, I went back to school and earned a vocational certificate as a "micro-computer repair technician." This was before the days of the Internet as we know it today, when CompuServe, Prodigy and AOL were in their infancy. After completing my certificate program, I landed a job as a field service engineer working for scientific instrument company. I installed,configured, and repaired inductively-coupled plasma spectrometers all over the country. I worked for this company for almost 10 years before the company was bought out and I took a voluntary package. Timing is everything when in search of a job. Fortunately for me, this was around the time the Internet began to catch on and it began to explode. I got a job with Lotus Development/IBM supporting Lotus Notes enterprise customer's.
