Mike's Story
A lot of water under the bridge from 1966 to the present. I received a BS and MS degree from UNR in Forestry and Hydrology. Went to work for the USFS in 1970, landing a permanent position in 1977 in Portland, OR. Spent my entire FS career in Region 6 (Oregon/Washington), and semi-retired in January of 2009 as a Washington Office employee in fire management. Most of my career was in forest hydrology, but I kept a keen interest in fire management and made the switch when it became apparent that was where I needed to be. I spent over 18 years in a command position on Incident Management Teams, as Incident Commander with 7 years as a Type 1 Incident Commander (T1 IMT's are sent...Expand for more
to the Nations toughest, most complex disasters, I spent 30 days at the World Trade Center after 9/11), retiring as an Area Commander, the highest level that can be attained in the Incident Command System. I'm still active as an AC, and am now with a firm that does contract work teaching the nation how to deal with disasters. I also spent some time in foreign countries (India, Sri Lanka, Lebanon) assisting their governments in the Incident Command System
I moved to Wyoming on retirement, and live near Jackson, with a blue ribbon trout stream out my front door, several ski areas nearby, and great big game hunting. I have a one child, a daughter, who lives in Hood River OR.
