Mike's Story
2006...Life
four grueling years at port richmond made me realize, i really didnt like school. i was a good student 1 thru 8, but i still didnt like it. h.s. was just so big. coming from st. theresa where i spent 8 years with the same kids, friends....it was comfortable. every new grade was a reunion, except we all grew taller and older just a little. me less than most. still short, still a goof. had some great football years thru hi school playing for sibfl t-birds, and si warriors. then it was off to play soldier. 6 years us army. mad stupid fun. it was one gigantic party of sorts. found myself, did things most never do. (skydive, mountain climb, rappel, blowing stuff up extensive waterborne training). being a soldier was nothing short of an exciting, fascinating, chilling experience. never to be forgotten. had it not been for marriage, woulda done 20 years. it isnt the job to drag a family around in. got 2 boys, 16, 10....love'm. good boys. (2/06) joined the nypd 1993 where i work today. lower east side manhattan. 7 yrs to go. then its off to retirement, playing racquetball with all the other old men, whistling at the college girls. yep, that'll be me. hobbies now: still play baseball, yeah baseball, not softball. riding motorcycles, although i recently sold. coach youth football. great wife, shes my hobby too. later all. k w i x 2 1 at y a h o o
School
grade school...ok ok i had a crush 1st thru 8th grade. no names, smart and blond. thats all i'm tellin. sorry but no teachers inspired me. i felt they were mostly miserable women who didnt want to be there. now sister lawrence was a trip, i will say that. mrs odonnel may have been the best...she st least seemed to care. rumolo despised me, fine, i felt the same back. i ...Expand for more
still have marks on my face of str. mary josephs bear like paw. hi school.....didnt like it. made great friends...but it was such a difference from the structure of catholic school. it was like doing well and excelling was looked down upon, yet in 1 thru 8 we all wanted to do well. after hi school i joined the army.....total fun, seperate bio....later
Workplace
been ON THE JOB for 13 years now. (2/06.) its been good to me, havent been fired yet. work the LES of manhattan. still like catching bad guys. i will always be on the street. inside is never for me. enjoy the people, i know its kinda cliche'ish. but i do. they are pure entertainment.
Military
boot camp at fort bliss tx, 1985. who ever knew a desert was so friggin cold. then lucky me gets stationed there for the next 2 plus years. i was a hawk then stinger crewman...in short, i carried a missile on my back and shot down plains, preferably enemy planes. el paso was a fun city. mexico was minutes away. lotta nites getting my shwerve on. great friends, reggie, owen, paulie, tweedy. transferred to fort leonard wood missouri for engineer school. decided i wanted to blow stuff up. stayed there for 2 years. attended sapper school, r7 boat school, bridge school. more friends, artie, richie, joe f., blue....went to korea 89-90. 1 year. 2nd infantry div. e co. bridge unit. stationed by the z. road marches, lotsa racketball, long work days. friends, artie again, mel, m grow, toto, jack, onion, mahon, will, tuff duty, but kinda rewarding. had i not been married, i woulda stayed in, maybe did another tour in 2 id. or at least extended 6 more months. but i chose to finish my near 6 year career, as a seargent, try life in the real world. 1990, tuff time, recession. did alright though.
