Mike's Story

Life I met my beautiful Filipina wife, Maricel, while I was working in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia in 1994. She was working as a nurse there when we met. In Oct. '95, we returned to Tucson and were married in a beautiful outdoor ceremony. Our daughter, Mikayla, was born in 2000. As for pets, we've had our cat "Bud-Bud" since we adopted him, while in Dhahran Saudi Arabia, in 1996. He's a big (22 pound) Bombay, which is a breed created to look like a miniature black Panther. He's a big baby though, and very vocal. Mike is still working in his Macintosh/PC consulting business (Macintosh Assistance Center), and Maricel is working as a Hemodialysis Nurse here in Tucson. We recently bought a new house, and are busy fixing it up. Mike acquired a black '99 Chevy Tahoe 4x4 in 2003. He then proceeded to make it into his version of a "Tahoe SS". It's got a custom "Ram-Air" hood, 20 inch wheels/tires, and lots of little touches to make it look as if the factory actually made an "SS" in '99. This included removal of all the facotry trim and the additoon of red "SS" emblems as seen on the Chevelle SS's of the early '70's. Maricel had to get a new vehicle at Christmas time 2004, so she got her "dream vehicle", a 2004 Chrysler Pacifica. We like to take lots of driving trips around our beautiful state of Arizona, when time permits. Workplace After High School, I worked as a jeweler for Gold Art Creations and Hacineda del Oro jewelers in Scottsdale. Following the death of my Grandfather in late 1974, I returned to school, at the Academy of Drafting in Tempe, AZ. Upon graduation in 1976, I took a position as an Electronics Draftsman for a small job-shop in Tempe. I was laid-off from my job there on the Bicentennial 4th of July, and after considering my options, enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. I worked on F-15 Avionics, Radar, and Test Equipment in the Air Force, and was stationed at Luke AFB (near Glendale, AZ), and at Kadena AB, Okinawa, Japan. After leaving the Air Force in December 1980, I returned to Phoenix where I worked two jobs for a while, one for MHZ Electronics, the other as a Test Technician for Sperry Flight Systems in Deer Valley. In 1981, I was hired by Bendix Test Systems Division, and performed my first work as a Product Support Engineer, installing Test Equipment for the F-15 Eagle fighter at Luke AFB Arizona. Upon completion of that project, I relocated to the NY/NJ area, where Bendix's plant was located (Teterboro, NJ). I lived in Greenwood Lake and Spring Valley New York, Garfield and Clifton/Patterson NJ. I stayed with Bendix (later Allied Signal) for three years, during which time I traveled to numerous F-15 bases world-wide as part of their Field Service group, including my old Air Force duty station in Okinawa, Japan. I never did like living "back east", so I interviewed with, and was hired in 1984 by Hughes Aircraft in El Segundo, CA. I...Expand for more
relocated to SoCal, lived in a tiny apartment near the beach in Redondo Beach, while I worked at Hughes' Radar Systems Group as a Production Test Engineer. I transferred to the Hughes Long Beach facility in 1985, and moved during that period to a beautiful 2 bedroom luxury apartment on the Rancho Palos Verdes peninsula. When the opportunity came up to relocate to Tucson for Hughes, I jumped at the chance, and in 1986, relocated to Tucson, where I accepted a position as a System Support Engineer in Field Support on the Phoenix "Second-Source" program. On this project, I was remotely assigned for 1 year to work for Hughes at Raytheon's plant in Lowell, Mass. During this period, I volunteered to become the Assistant Assets Manager for the Hughes office at the Lowell MA location. Upon the completion of the Phoenix SS contract, I returned to Tucson and was placed as a System Support Engineer-Senior on the Maverick Missile Program. During this time, I volunteered to be the Maverick groups' in-house "computer guru", attended some advanced computer training courses in Hughes' MIS facility, and was eventually re-assigned as Member of Computing Staff. When the AMRAAM program consolidated operations in Tucson, I was requested by the new AMRAAM Aircraft Integration Group Program Manager to be loaned to the group as their full-time "Macintosh Guru", network administrator, and database developer. In 1991, I took a position with McDonnell Douglas in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia supporting F-15s again, this time for the Royal Saudi Air Force. After 4 years on the PDM Program in Dhahran, I was hired to be the IT Manager for the new RSAF Fighter Weapons School there. When my contract was finished in 1997, I returned to Tucson. I took a position in early 1998 as Manager of Computing Services at Evergreen Air Center in Marana, AZ. After being laid-off from Evergreen in October of that same year, I bought the Macintosh Assistance Center, a computer consulting business, from a friend, and started doing Mac and PC consulting in Tucson and southern Arizona. In 2002, the opportunity to return to Saudi Arabia came up, so I took a position as a Technical Writer and Quality Program Analyst in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, at the headquarters of the Royal Saudi Air Force. Following the bombing of our housing compound by Al Queida terrorists on May 12th, 2003, I returned to Tucson with my wife and daughter, and resumed the operation of my Mac business. Military Entered active duty in the United States Air Force in January 1977. Attended "Boot Camp" at Lackland AFB, San Antonio, Texas. Completed "Basic" 2 days after my 21st Birthday. Attended Avionics Technical School for 6 months at Lowry AFB, Colorado. Graduated with AFSC 326x4, traveled to first duty assignment at Luke AFB, Arizona. Re-assigned to Kadena AFB, Okinawa, Japan in 1978. Left U. S. Air Force as an E4 in December 1980.
