Mike's Story

Life RETIRED 01/31/2023! Hi! I got a BS in Computer Science at the University of Central Florida in '78, and worked as a software engineer in Melbourne, first for Scientific Systems Services/Computer Task Group, then Harris Controls/General Electric, then ConEd in Manhattan, then back to Harris/Peraton. I worked primarily on energy management systems that electric utility companies use to monitor and control their networks. Interesting work that allowed me to travel to places like London, Edinburgh, Hyderabad, Helsinki, Manhattan, and other US sites. Last worked on ground based systems for satellite telemetry, tracking and control. GPS was a major customer. I got married in '76 (divorced in '96) and have two great kids, Michelle and Andy. Michelle got a BS in Finance from Vanderbilt in '98, and Andy got a BA in Hospitality Management from UCF in ''04. Michelle currently works as Director of Music Curation for DMI Music in Los Angeles. Andy works as a Hilton hotels management software specialist, based in Orlando. I remarried in '02 to the beautiful Chris Waters. We'd crossed paths through college and work a few times since '76 as friends, and it still amazes me that it blossomed into something entirely different 25 years later. Chris also worked as a software engineer in Melbourne, for Northrup Grumman. She was a Florida native and g...Expand for more
rew up in New Smyrna Beach. She passed away from cancer in 2014. I spent quite a bit of time as a soccer referee, since 1984, when I volunteered to help out when my daughter started playing club ball in Rockledge. She stopped playing in '94 at the end of high school, but I continued to referee at different levels afterwards. I worked youth, amateur, high school, college and low-level pro games over the years until I hung up my cleats in 2014. I am an active member of the American Oulaws, the US Soccer national teams supporter group. I try to attend a game or two in person every year. I've been to six world cups (three men's, two women's, one paralympic), one Olympics, and a lot of qualifying matches. Look for our group on TV, usually behind one of the goals, standing and cheering and waving US flags the whole game (we only sit at half time). Great way to show my patriotism. I started doing the same with the Ruckus supporters group when Orlando City Soccer Club joined Major League Soccer in 2015. I joined the Space Coast Ski and Travel Club in 2018. I have been on a bunch of great trips with them, e.g. Iceland, Ireland, Thailand/Cambodia/Laos/Vietnam, and France. Went to Mexico, India and Canada with friends. Going in 2024 to England/Spain/Portugal, Denmark/Sweden/Norway and Egypt/Jordan. Retirement made long trips easier! See ya, Mike
