Mike's Story

Life Hello, I am going to hit on a few things that has happened in my life after leaving high school. I went to Humes for three years. (ALMOST) I quit, mid-way through my senior year. While going to Humes I was a member of the ROTC program, captain of the rifle team and held the rank of Major. Shortly after leaving school I joined the Army. I went through basic training a Fort Polk Louisiana. I spent 30 months in Germany. I got my GED while in the service. I received a two month early discharge, January 3, 1966, to go to college. After getting out, I moved to California and attended Fullerton Junior College, and Santa Ana Junior College. (NO DEGREE) I majored in photography, and also became a water safety instructor. (I taught swimming for a short time.) Went to work for The Fullerton News Tribune, where I nearly starved to death. (ha ha) I photographed some weddings before realizing that it was very hard to make a living as a photographer. After that I went to work for Xerox for about three years. In 1968 I met my wife,(JoAnne Delmark) at a roller skating rink,(Skate Ranch in Santa Ana California)she Graduated from Santiago High School in California. For those that new me in high school, that is where I spent most of my time on the weekends, skating that is. I got married May 24, 1969. We lived in Orange county California where I worked for the County of orange until we moved to PARADISE. Literally, Paradise California. It's a small town in the mountains in the northern part of the state. We've lived here for the past 27 years and no plans of living. (IT IS TRULY PARADISE) My wife and I have been happily married for 37 years in May. We have two children and six grand children. I've been a General Building Contractor for nearly 28 years; Specializing in design and building of custom homes, with no desire to retire. (FULL TIME THAT IS.) In my free time I fish, golf, and bowl in a league with my wife. For the past year I am back roller skating. Years ago I competed in dance, figures and speed skating. During my years competing I won some local contest in dance and figures. I also won the state championships i...Expand for more
n speed skating two times. Last year I went to the West Coast Regionals in dance, and placed third. That qualified me to go to the National Championships in Pensacola Florida, where I took eighth place out of 36 qualifiers through out the U.S. This year (2006) my goal is to place in the top three, to be held in Lincoln Nebraska. My wife started skating again this year. We are going to are first contest in April. We are having a lot of fun practicing together. Well that brings you up to date in my life. (TO BE CONTINUED FOR MANY YEARS, GOD WILLING.)(UPDATE) I won the South West Regional skating championships in July. That Qualified me for the nationals in Lincoln Nebraska. I achieved my goal and placed third at Nationals. (LIFE IS GRATE) And life goes on!!! (UPDATE 1/25/09) Life is still grate. I'm still working at a job I like very much. My son is working with me, and now it is even better. He is now 30 years old, and my daughter is 34. My wife and I are still dance skating. In 2007 we won the National Roller skating Championships in our age division. (OLD PEOPLE) We travel all over skating. We will have been married 40 years in May. Some of you requested to here what I've been doing. Now you probably like to know how to shut me up. Well you asked. (UPDATE 1/26/2012) I just turned 67 years old. WOW!!!! Talk about getting old. Don't feel that old. But I guess I really don't know what that is supposed to feel like. Well not much has changed, still skating. No more championships though, but I did place second in figuers skating the past two years. My wife and I placed eighth in dance in 2011. Nationals were held in Ft. Wayne Indiana. For the past four years we have been skating in the Veterians division, 55 and older. Hard to compete with the young 55 year olds. (LOL) My wife is still bowling, she got in a league with her sister. A few weeks ago she had a 278 game and a 730 series. (That is scratch no handy cap.) Her book average is 191. For the bowlers out their you know how good that is. Well I'm rambling on, so I had better stop for now. Buy for now and hope every one is as happy and in as good health as I am. God bless you all.
