Mike's Story
Life
After Woodlawn, I spent a few months camping around Europe before starting college at UAB, spent a couple of years in the Army in Korea, got married and then worked at UAB for several years while finishing my BS in psych at night, graduating in '73. Finished my MS in Ed psych in '74 at UAB. Worked for the Feds for a couple of years and then went back to finish my PhD at UAT, graduating in '80. Went to work for the Army as a Dept of Defense research psychologist at Ft. Benning, GA after that and moved to Norfolk, VA in '82. Got into sailing on the Chesapeake and took an offer to work for the Navy in Pensacola in '85 so I could sail all year 'round and have been here at the Naval Aviation School ever since. Divorced in '87, remarried in '91. Two grown kids, three grandsons. Retired in June '05. I've gotten back into photography since all my old equipment was wiped out in hurricane Ivan in '04. While I was at Woodlawn I did a lot of photography, mostly of cheerleaders and majorettes and the pretty girls next door. Barnes sisters next door. I've started exhibiting at art festivals in the area...Expand for more

College
It took me ten years of mostly night school (5:00-10:00 PM) at UAB to finish my bachelor's degree, two years mostly night school at UAB to finish my Master's, and four years full time at Tuscaloosa to finish my Ph.D. - Sooo... it wasn't exactly your typical college experience...
Workplace
I've spent the last 27 years as a Department of Defense Educational Psychologist - seven or so years with the Army and the rest with the Navy. It's been a pretty good ride. I retired (early) in June at 60 and do some part-time consulting work (mostly web-based distance learning applications) and some web site development and photography for fun - when I'm not sailing!
Military
Drafted out of UAB in '66, opposed the war in Vietnam but went anyway. After Basic and Advanced electronics training at Ft. Benning, I was assigned to an Honest John Artillery unit in South Korea (whew!). Discharged at midnight on Friday 13th in '68 and was sitting in class back at UAB the following Monday morning.
