Mike's Story
After high school, I moved to Evansville and managed a Medical and Surgical supply store, had background from summer jobs while in school learning equipment repair.
Shortly and I do mean shortly, I was drafted but joined to have some say in what military education I would receive.
I ended up stationed in Heilbronn West Germany for 15 months, lived in an apartment and traveled throughout the country.
Fortunately this was just like a civilian job, as a stock control and accounting specialist.
Good thing I didn't need Algebra! This is where I was introduced to Information Technology.
After leaving Germany, I started in Electronic Data processing, today they call it Information Technology (IT for short) at National Seal in Frankfort, transferred to Van Wert Ohio, then to headquarters in Southfield Michigan. I stayed with the company over seven years and was a computer programmer, Programmer Analyst and ended up as Operations Research Analyst.
Some of the computers I programmed were used in factory automation, I did well enough that a manufacturer asked me to work for them.
I started as a Systems Analyst; configuring computer systems both the ...Expand for more
hardware and software for companies like Ford Motor, General Motors and many others.
I continued to learn the business and progressed to District Service Manager then moved to Pennsylvania after a divorce, back as a Systems Analyst, got married again, eventually move to headquarters in Fort Lauderdale Florida as a Product Manager, Marketing Manager, Senior Marketing Manager, my last position as a Medical Imaging Manager, I was with Modular Computer Systems
for over 16 years, married for 13 then divorced again, sales and marketing is a rough occupation required a lot of travel to Germany, England and Sweden.
I traveled back to Germany, London England, Stockholm Sweden taking my family on vacation for 18 days, oh yea, have a great son, he is 21 now.
Times were getting tough for Minicomputer vendors, my CEO said we were not going to do any marketing any longer, there's your sign Ha!
I stayed long enough to find a software contract position and have been doing consulting for over ten years now its fun, you can set your hours to some degree, and get paid very well. I believe the best part is learning new processes and meeting interesting people.
