Mike's Story
Hi everybody from the 1960âs. This is Mike Weir giving you an update on what has happened to me since the days at Marina High. You might remember that I loved taking Industrial Arts classes at Marina. Well, I went on and got a BA in Industrial Arts from San Jose State and started teaching shop classes in San Jose. I got married (way too young - long story) and had a couple kids. The first marriage didnât work out, but the second one is going strong! In the 1980âs I went back to college and got my Masterâs degree in computer education, and have been playing with computers and technology ever since. You might remember the Downstairs Courthouse - the rock band that I was in during the Marina Days, playing the drums. I never lost my love of music. I have...Expand for more
been involved in other bands as a drummer, worked as a sound engineer for some dance companies in the San Jose area, and had a mobile DJ business for about 12 years. For the last 6 years, I have been able to use my knowledge of technology and my passion for music to teach a course that I developed, called Digital Music. It teaches students about different music genres, instrumentation, music theory, and using the computer, they learn how to compose their own original music. It is one of the most rewarding and fun courses that I have taught in a long time. In my spare time I enjoy playing the piano, kayaking, and playing with my grandkids. Well, thatâs what I have been up to, and what Iâm doing now, and Iâm starting to look at retirement in a year or so.
