Mike's Story
I left Northern Virginia after my senior year to attend school in Florida. I graduated from the University of West Florida in spring of 1975 with a degree in Special Education. Over the years I have taught in elementary, middle, and high schools with my last assignment being in the Hospital Homebound Program. I will retire in about a year and a half with over 35 years teaching. I'd work longer, but the state of Florida has ended pension plans for teachers. gh the state service system. I'll miss teaching children and I am not sure what the future will hold for me.
Three months after I retired our daughter Kendra who was due to give birth passed away. A viral infection complicated her health and pregnancy. Her daughter, our granddaughter was born nearly 8 weeks early. Today as I write, she is a beautiful loving 7 year old. We are doing well. Every day we look for the best in life and heal a bit more, We celebrated 45 years of marriage recently. We are thankful for each day.
