Mike's Story
Life so far... After I graduated High school, I was tempted to go to College. However, I was seduced away from this prospect by a job working construction. Who needs college when one can make $9.72 an hour? Later, the economic downturn in the early 80's caught me and I was laid off. I eventually found work as a brake/front end/frame mechanic, and stayed at that job till 92. In 87, I met Mary and Elizabeth. Mary became my wife, and Elizabeth became my daughter in 89. Katie came along in 92. Elizabeth now lives in Wichita Kansas, and of course Katie is still at home. Being a typical teenager, she is getting smarter every day, while Mom ...Expand for more
and Dad's intelligence is shrinking exponentially. In 93, we relocated to Southeast Iowa, and I got a job at a factory that makes commercial laundry equipment. Mary is an O.R. Nurse, and now works as a traveler. She works out of town during the week, and is usually able to make it home for the weekends. In the fall of 06, I was laid-off due to a work injury, and one year later I enrolled at Indian Hills Community College in the Bioprocess Technology program. I hope to get a job working as a chemist or a Q.A. associate when I graduate next year. Being a student at 48 is different, to say the least. "What a long strange trip its been."
