Mike's Story
Pre-veterinary medicine at Kansas State turned into a very low GPR in something akin to basket weaving after 3 semesters. They didn't have a very strong program in those days. Simple things, like food, were always a challenge. I went from 215 to 175 the first semester. All that plus knee surgery in the spring of 67 and a Red Shirt in the fall convinced me to head east. I spent a quarter at DeKalb College in Atlanta, then went the rest of the way at Clemson on an ROTC scholarship. Graduated with a BA in Econ and History with a minor in English. Went straight to the Army, the day after graduation, in 70. Spent the next 30 years in the Infantry. Made major stops in N.C., Panama, California(3 times), Germany, Virginia, Hawaii, Boston, Arkansas, Georgia(3 times), Louisiana, and Alabama. Made minor stops in several garden spots including Austria, Thailand, Colum...Expand for more
bia, Turkey, Saudi and worst of all, D.C. Married in 71 and am still married to Sarah. Two sons. One in Gallatin, TN, buying and selling medical diagnostic equipment. The other in Raleigh, NC, as a computer engineer with an outfit that in the main does government contracts. Two grandsons and two miniature schnauzers. Picked up a Masters at the Naval Post Grad School in National Security Affairs for Europe and the USSR and at the Fletcher School in International Security Affairs. Probably could have taught after the Army, but instead I hunt, fish, still play a little guitar and make turkey calls. Have a hard time, too, keeping my nose out of politics. Very bad habit. My primary pursuit since 2000 has been serving as a Licensed Lay Reader in a traditional Anglican Church. It is the source of my strength and a pursuit I hope to continue for many years to come.
