Mike's Story

Life OK.. Here goes. When I left school, I went to the army.. got out.. went to work in Quebec, Canada as a Construction Electrician for 5 years (learned French).. I was not hiding out! Moved back to the States and built a TV Cable company (4 years). Sold it and moved to Texas to work for Texas Instruments as an Electronics Design Engineer (3 years). Moved to Colorado and went back to school (1983), and received my Bachelor's degree in 1988. Worked as a Jr. Professor teaching advanced electronics, CAD/CAM, mechanics and computer programming for 2 years, and also as the Computer Specialist for the school while in classes there (for 4 years). Then I moved to Denver in 1990 and worked for several businesses as a Hardware and/or Software Engineer until the industry died. Then I opened a small computer business and have been doing Sales & Service ever since. I don't make much money (semi-retired), but at least I still enjoy the work. I got married in 1980 and have 2 grown kids.. (daughter is 21, and son is 17 - as of Mar 2005). Hope to here from lots of my old buddies if they read this.. Bye for now!! School Didn't much like school.. too much of the same ol' things over and over every day.. That's what finally did it for me.. went in to 12th grade English.. teacher started talking about the same things we'd had for 10 years or so.. and I decided that I wasn't going to do it anymore. Sorry that I didn't stick around for graduation, but instead.. went to Belleville and took GED.. Passed with flying colors and was done with school.. until I found out what a college degree held for me. Job opportunities!!.. for awhile.. then I found that I was to old to use it! Oh well!!.. Live and Learn! People I remember that I had strong feelings for: Cheryl Brown and Peggy Doom (from Jr High) and George Juengel since Grade School, and High School for me was all tech.. and work after school.. Not much for dates or girls or anything else. College I ...Expand for more
went to college to get ahead in life. I tested out of Math and English.. so I went straight to my Major work (Industrial Technologies - Minor in Computer Science). It took 5 years for me to finish.. I wanted much more CSci then the curriculum offered.. so I did individual study! When I started, I was a NTS (non-traditional student).. which meant that I was old.. compared to all the others. I did work study the 1st year in the Physics dept., then got the job of Computer Specialist for the Data Processing Dept. I took care of ALL the computers and Networks on campus (not bad, eh!) After classes, I'd do homework, tutor others in computer programming (Unix,C,Basic,Fortran & Pascal), physics and physics calculus, electronics, and the Industrial Studies. My classes were normally in the morning, so I worked in the afternoon installing and repairing computers. I was also married at the time, so I didn't have to worry about dates.. at least not very often! After Graduation, I also worked as a Full-Time professor in the Industrial Arts Dept. I taught CAD/CAM, Electronics, Small Engine Mechanics, and built automation systems for industrial machines (robots). I had lots of fun and got a 3.2 GPA to take with me.. can you imagine me getting a "B" average in anything?? Workplace I'll fill this in some time in the future.. there's lots of places.. in Canada, West Virginia, Texas, and now Colorado. For the quick view, see the Life Bio.. it tells most of it. Military Well.. Not much to talk about there.. I joined the Army at 17 and was really too young to be there. When Basic was nearly over, I had an opportunity to leave (medical) and did. I got a lot of good out of my time there, including great exercise, medical treatment, fair food, etc.. I really wish that I would have stayed longer.. but it just didn't work out that way! My biggest loss was not knowing where most of my friends ended up after Nam.. I don't know who came back and didn't.??
