Mildred's Story
Life
I went to college at Sam Houston State in Huntsville and got a BS degree in 1951. Taught school at Galena Park for two years and moved to New London, Texas where my husband, Sam Burke, was Band Director. I did substitute teaching at New London. Our daughter, Jan, was born there. Moved to Carthage, Texas in 1961. Got a Masters degree at SFA in Nacogdoches by going to night school. In 1963 I went to work as Plant Clerk for a gas plant and worked there until 1992. Took many computer classes at Panola College.
My husband died in 1968 and I married Mickey Spencer in 1983 (PHS grad). We moved back to Houston in 1995. Life is Good! Update 2001: We were flooded in June and slowly getting house repaired. Lost 50 years of collectables and household goods. We learned that good stuff should be stored high, not on closet floor.

ive mornings a week. Three days at St. Giles Presbyterian and
two days at MANNA, a community center on 43rd Street here in Houston. Along with walking two miles every day, this activity keeps me feeling good about myself. Mickey and I plan most of the reunions for the PHS Class of 1947 and would love to hear from anyone who graduated in the 1940s. Update 2012: My husband, Mickey Spencer, died in Oct 2010. I still teach exercise class at church twice a week, walk three miles early every day, water aerobics three times a week. I am active in my church (treasurer of the women's group; on the Pastor Parish committee and help with various projects). I am active in the Lions club and the Red Hats. I do my own housework and still mow my yard. I attend stage plays at several places around Houston and enjoy opera in the Heights. In my "apare time" I love to read and belong to a reading club.
