Mildred's Story
I married Bill Woods. Bill was born in Nevada and raised mostly in California. I was born in Louisiana, raised in Oak Cliff, and lived all over Texas and then sunny southern California before I met Bill.
I graduated at the ripe old age of 17 from SOC. Then I worked as a clerk typist in downtown Dallas, I was a car hop at Sybil's for one or two nights, worked for temporary office agencies, was a legal secretary and plant secretary, consultant, bookkeeper, human resources clerk, administrative assistant, keypunch operator, Dairy Queen clerk (yes, I can make those little swirlies on top of the cone.) About the only job I never did was factory work.
Then I met Bill in California. We've traveled and lived in Oregon, where we both drove taxis; we've lived in New Mexico, where Bill auditioned for a career as a roughneck in the oil fields; and back ...Expand for more
to Nevada, California, and Texas. We lived in Nevada from 1994 to 2008 but now we're back in Texas.
Along the way, I picked up a couple of associates degrees and learned to design web sites, which I've been doing for several years.
We've been raising two of grandchildren for the last 11 years, and they're now 14 and 12.
I just recently found my friend Veneta, whom I hadn't seen since 1959. She lived down the street from me on Michigan but she went to Adamson while I was attending SOC. She drove all the way from the other side of Fort Worth to spend the day with us. What a wonderful day, reminiscing and getting caught up on 50 years of our lives! I also found Shirley (Beasley) DuBois on Facebook. I didn't have much of a social life as a teenager, so most of the people on here won't even remember me. But a lot of the names sure sound familiar.
