Milt's Story
Update:
Nov. 19, 3013 -- Spent a long (and good) weekend serving 41 men in a Maryland prison (8am to 8pm) to help them turn their lives around. Served with 30 men from many different denominations and churches. The prison residents learned to listen and care for each other, and to find peace and even joy each day inside the walls. (We outside of prisons often build walls of our own making. Also, others help me to learn the same lessons.) Will be going inside again in May and November 2014.
My story:
Went to Western Md. College for 2 years after Northwood, graduated from U. of Md in Sociology. Then Masters there in Counseling and Student Personnel. Counselor at N. Va. Community College for a few years, then career counselor at National Institutes of Health. Got into doing employee training there. Directed first PC training center at NIH (remember the XT?). Then directed employee training and career development at Medicare and Medicaid headquarters in Baltimore. Enjoyed work and was driven to be professional and accomplish. Done that, then decided I did not want to be defined by my career and retired from fed govt. Part-time taught career planning at Frederick Com. College and helped teachers put their courses online. Retired from that, now do volunteer work.

ge and family to be part of. Daughters both work in hospitals; one lives in Hagerstown, other in Myersville. Grandchildren Lucas, Avery, Gideon, and Cooper. As of 2013, they are between ages 5 and 7. Eileen and I Iive on a farmette Frederick County, 5 miles from Frederick City. Lived in Frederick since 1975.
Since their birth, we care for grandchildren 2 days a week. I volunteer at the Frederick Rescue Mission and for Kairos Prison Ministry at a state prison in Hagerstown. Last year, learned how to be a mediator, and have been doing that (still learning), mostly with inmates who are close to being released, mediating between them and folks on the outside where they will be returning to. Have been on mission trips to Liberia and Bosnia, to serve folks who suffered during wars there; also to LA, MS, KY, and WV. Continue to support the Hope for the Deaf School in Liberia, West Africa. Encourage folks at my church, Middletown UMC, to volunteer locally to see the faces and hear the voices of the poor and to support missions in Frederick county and Liberia, West Africa..
Doug Patton is a Northwood 63 grad whom I am good friends with, thanks to him. He is a retired pastor living in Canton, Ohio. We spent time at each others homes recently. Became friends in 3rd grade. Several years ago, exchanged emails with Paul Sherbow, who is in Israel and runs an online radio station.
