Mimi's Story
The wildest thing I ever did in high school was while pledging for Phi Beta Sigma, I had to climb up on the Shoneys Big Boy statue and kiss him!
Moved to Alabama in 1986, to open and manage the newest "Dads Place" in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Hardest thing was moving to a town where I knew absolutely NO ONE. That changed quickly, but I hated it here and wanted to go back to Memphis but I met my husband to be, decided to stay & got married in 1988 to Bret Boyd. He was trying to work and raise his two boys by himself. Phillip 4 and Blake one year. We bought a house and added a daughter to our family, Britnee, in 1989 and another son, Buck, in 1991. Children are now Phillip 26, Blake 22, Britnee 19, Buck is 17 and I'm getting old!! One more to graduate from high school and then college. Keeping up with 4 kids, all these years, has kept me running, while most of my classmates kids are grown and now have grandchildren!! vorces, swapping children out ever other weekend--did not want that for my children. I always wanted to be a mom when I grew up. My family and friends thought it was a bad idea at the time. But I waited and as it turns out, they were WRONG. Bret,my husband works for Uniroyal Goodrich in Tuscaloosa and I am a Substitute teacher for county schools. We are ALL BAMA fans----ROLL TIDE ROLL!! Football is the LIFE here---If you aren't from Alabama, there is no way for you to understand.
My favorite way to relax is to go to our cabin on Yellow Creek(inlet off of Black Warrior River) We swim and fish. Looking at all the trees, while trolling, and wondering who could have been in the exact same spot a hundred years ago. In my younger years I liked water skiing and was pretty darn good at it too! Can't do it now, well I probably could but if I fell, it would KILL ME. I'll stick to fishing.
In 10 years, I hope to be 66. I'm going to get there by trying to eat better and exercising a few times a week.
