Mindy's Story
Life
Family is great. This month my son turned 18 and my daughter turned 16. Both have driving permits so I'm living on the edge. My two step-daughters are great. Both are married and the oldest is about to turn 30 and has provided me with three wonderful grandchildren. It is quite an adventure to have kids in high school and grandchildren! As of November we took the plunge and took home a stray from the Humane Society. So far, he has been an awesome addition to the family. His name is Rocket and he doesn't talk back like the teens in the house! (lol).
My Job
After a stint with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), as a Human Resources Advisor working with Satellite personnel, I've returned to Dept. of Veterans Affairs. I previously spent 15 years with the Department of Veterans Affairs. I have to say that NOAA was refreshing and frustrating at the same time. I don't think anyone can say that working for the government is not different everyday and very surprising at times. But I'm enjoying being back at VA.
The Marine Corps initially brought me to Colorado as it was my last duty station, serving in the Corps for 10 years. I decided Colorado was too good to leave so I left the Marine Corps instead and parked myself here....Expand for more
Now you'd have a hard time hauling me out. I love the dry, sunny weather! Though over the years it has become more congested, what place hasn't? Both of my kids were born here and don't know anything else, except for those long drives back to Michigan to visit all the relatives who don't know any better:) We love it here. Who cares that there isn't water all around us. That only ensures that there is no humidity either. Instead of water we have the Rocky Mountains, which are definitely breathtaking. I have one fourteener under my belt and wonder why I didn't attempt them earlier. I have lived on both the East and West Coasts and Colorado is by far my favorite place to be.
Workplace
Shortly after high school, I joined the Marine Corps. This was one of my most noted accomplishments. I felt honored that I could serve my country and did so for 10 years. Shortly after my discharge, I began working for the Department of Veterans Affairs for the next 15 years. In the fall of 2005, I took a big leap and moved to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). I can hardly believe the time that has passed! I also earned my bachelor's degree from Colorado Christian University, after my discharge from the military. Wow, time flies!
