After high school, I attended Midwestern State University and graduated with a degree in Mass Communications and a minor in Public Relations. I worked for Southern Methodist University in Dallas for four years in their admission office as an admission counselor and then assistant director. In 2005, I married my husband, Jerry Giles, and moved to New Orleans with him so that he could start his medical residency with Tulane. I was able to keep my job with SMU, and they made me a "regional" admission counselor, which was cool because I got to work from home and travel around, too. We arrived in New Orleans just about a month and a half or so before Katrina. We were living just blocks from where the 17th St canal burst. I evacuated to Houston, and Jerry had to stay at the hospital to work. The week after was probably one of the hardest weeks of my life.
