Minerva's Story
33 years is a long time since i left Orosi Union High; been to the campus lately to watch one of our daughters, Miriam play at a volleyball tournament and win.Yahoo, Kingsburg High!! The long cement wall we used to sit on for respite is sadly still there. It felt strange walking across the old place. i imagined seeing cigarette smoke coming out of the staff's lunchroom and the cafeteria cooks taking our lunch orders in a line. there are old and newer trophies and awards in sports in glass cases. the gym is looking better equipped but didnt seem as cavernous now. i remember our class being booed by the upperclassmen in 1974 entering as a frosh on our very first day which made me cry. 3 years later we welcomed the babies in the same manner. hehehhe.
after being offered and accepted a full ride to the university of spoiled children (USC, Los Angeles) i moved to rent an apartment behind the Shrine auditorium adjacent to the Greek fraternity houses row. with hubris, I signed up for tough classes in biology, chemistry, psychology, bonehead english 101, spanish...Expand for more
and skiing 101. I did fairly well except in chemistry and chemistry didnt like me. i began to refocus, stayed for the spring semester for more tortuous classes and then applied to return to the San Joaquin Valley and enrolled at CSUFresno keeping my scholarship intact and switched my major from Natural Sciences to Elem Education. got my BS in Child Dev, with emphasis in Early Childhood, lifetime teaching credentials preschool thru adult classes, became a naturalized US citizen from the Philippines, Fresno Unified Schools hired me to teach fulltime at age 23, bought a small 3 bedroom home in Clovis and continued my grad studies in Educ Admin.
i was able to travel and do some grad work in london and italy, traveled to neighboring countries a few times over the years, got married in April 1984 at the then Sequoia-Orosi Presbyterian Church, had kids, bought a small vineyard in Kingsburg with a home, and we've lived there since.
C'est la vie. alles ist ser gute. Danke und Auf weidersehen. bis bald. djekoje. prozim.
