Minnette's Story
As a mid-term Milby grad, I started to Sam Houston (very short-lived) immediately after graduation in January 1956. Since I wasn't able to find a summer job, I took a permanent job in First City Bank in the summer of 1956 and stayed 3 years, during which time I married Loomon Smith, a great guy I met at Manchester Baptist Church. We have two daughters who live in the Austin area. Loomon died in November 1986.
From 1959 through 1985, I was employed by Conoco in various secretarial/executive assistant positions. In 1985, I "retired" to complete my education, and hopefully, get a "real" job. Ha, ha! Little did I know how much my life would change in the next two years.
After many years of night-school, I finally earned a BBA in finance from the University of Houston in 1990. I have since then worked in an administrative job for an investment bank, then an investor (retiring again along the way), and then as controller for a small bio-tech com...Expand for more
pany trying to get a cancer drug to market. Curently, I am self-employed doing contract accounting and administrative work. Retirement doesn't seem to stick with me.
My home is at L Livingston currently, although I do contract work in Houston. I am contemplating putting the L Livingston place on the market and moving back into town where I am less likely the fall down a hill or get bitten by a snake. Cutting grass on a very sloping lawn has become very old.
Traveling is my favorite pastime, but reading is my most indulged. Favorite reading material includes spy novels, nutrition and recipes, biographies, and lots of miscellaneous "stuff."
In current iteration of my life, I enjoy entertaining friends and family; taking in plays, concerts, and movies; and trying out new places to eat, as well as visiting old favorites. Also, I travel as much as time and money allow, including trips to some far away places such as Costa Rica.
