Mitchell's Story
I've resided in the San Francisco Bay Area for much of the past 30 years. I've been with the same woman -- Marjorie -- all that time and we got married in 1984. I make a living as an art historian, and have been employed as a Professor at California College of the Arts since 1995. Other than teaching, I spend alot of work time writing about the history of architecture and cities.
I love to travel and have been around Japan, China, South America, Israel, Morocco, Egypt, Turkey, most of Europe from Russia to Portugal, and all over North America.

getting lost. I also devote much time to my garden and grow many fruit trees -- Olive, Pomegranite, Lemon, Lime, Orange, Apricot, Plum, Fig, and Persimmon.
I think often of my years on Long Island and actually wrote an essay called "The Surfaces of Long Island" for the journal Places. I am fascinated by the newness of the place we all grew up in and the extreme mobility and change which have affected the area in the few decades since graduation. I'm currently working on a book that includes a chapter on Long Island as well, so if you see someone with a notebook in front of a Waldbaum's or bowling alley, that could be me.
