Molly's Story
Life
A year after high school I moved to Key West and worked on a charter boat for three and a half years as the only, at that time, female first mate on the bight. Despite being hijacked to Cuba (yes, I really was!), working on the Spook was a fantastic experiene, and I was lucky to have had that amazing opportunity. After leaving Key West, I joined the Air Force in 1975 and made the military my career for the next 24 years, retiring in 1999. I was stationed in various places including South Carolina, Illinois, Texas, Korea, England, and Utah, with lots of temporary duty in other locations. Before and after the military, I lived in Iowa, South Carolina, Washington, Florida, and Illinois. I feel very fortunate that I was able to travel extensively, have a variety of wonderful experiences, and meet some amazing people. I married my college sweetheart, Chris, and we have two children: David is a certified teacher employed full-time near Atlanta, and Megan, who received her MBA in 2008, is an Event and Marketing Director, employed full-time near Nashville. They are both married to their soul mates and have blessed me with four grandchildren. They are fantastic kids, and I am so lucky to be their mom!
College
My college experience was pretty non-traditional. I attended college in Key West (Florida Keys Community College), affectionately known as FLAKEYS, but I was less than dedicated, to put it mildly! It wasn't a total loss though, because I met the love of my life while enro...Expand for more
lled there. After joining the Air Force in 1975, I took classes at nearly every base at which I was stationed, which meant several different universities including Baptist College at Charleston, Eastern Washington University, University of Maryland Asian Division, and Park University. Due to military and family constraints it took me quite a long time to obtain a degree. In 1990 I received an Associate in Applied Science in Personnel Administration from the Community College of the Air Force (CCAF). After retiring from the military in 1999, I decided that I wanted to pursue a Bachelors degree, with the added goal of finishing before my 50th birthday and maintaining a GPA of 3.5 or higher. In 2002, I graduated Summa Cum Laude from Park University, with dual degrees in Human Resources Management and Social Psychology. Since I turned 50 that year, and achieved a 4.0 GPA in each of my degree programs, I am proud to say that I accomplished both of my goals! My professors at FLAKEYS would never have believed it was possible!!
Current
Sadly, I lost my dear husband and forever love to cancer in 2011. In 2005 we moved to a portion of his family farm in north central Florida, and it is where I still live. I miss him so very much, but it helps to be surrounded by all the memories we made here, and I really love the quiet, rural life this beautiful place affords me.
Interests
My interests include genealogy, antiques, and collectibles. I have a large collection of really cool 'stuff.'
