Molly's Story

ok, Mark's 16 now, made Eagle Scout this year, 2011. He'll be in Rose Parade carrying a banner. they wanted his hair to be cut for the parade. I told them Mark's First Nations People. He is partly, and considers himself Native American. I had a problem registering him at birth. The staff at hospital was arguing with me, and ANGRY. She finally put "n.a." on the birth certificate. *itch. Everyone knows a race is designated by capital letters, but "not applicable" as in refusing to state race is small letters. She screwed my kid's birth certificate. Just because I am blond and blue doesn't mean my husband is. And, Cherokee are famous for being blond and blue because of mountain men of Scottish heritage marrying. I was in no shape to argue with her. This year December is busy enough without all the Parade activities and practice marching. We are scrambling. Since Art's been a member of NARFs (native american rights fund) for years, I did ask them for some law to quote. Look for hair tucked into shirt. Last year, they had a boy put beads in his hair. Mark was willing, but Art said "NO. bone or leather is ok. Beads are white man's plastic." (he's part "white man" but whatever...) added to lines below is this for Dec 2009: (my thrill of a lifetime, sounds like bragging.... hmmm) Went to Barcelona, south of France (Canal du Midi starting at Narbonne on the Mediterranean), and Italian Alps. Saw Carcassone (the walled medieval city) and ate cassoulet there (where it was invented). Got back in Oct. Took photos of famous art in history notes done by my Italian ancestors. This beauty that was waiting for me, sure beats headstones...Got family genealogy info that i could only get in person - due to Italian hoarding of old vital records. Now putting together 25 years of family research and trying to finish by Christmas. I am impressed by my own list of reference materials. ;D (previous posting) Li...Expand for more
fe I am still married to Art Hanson. My son, Mark, is 14. I am happy. My mom still lives in the same house we lived in when I went to Burroughs. Some of you know I am the oldest of seven kids. Three are in Northern California with families. The rest are around here. I turned Federal evidence on one graduate school. The Federal investigator said it wasn't personal, when he verified what I reported and the documents I sent. He said they did "it to all the women." One girlfriend shot herself. Another's brain pattern shows destruction in a stress pattern which put her on disability. We knew it was mainly our department. One girlfriend called it the Snakepit. Then, as a college teacher, I had to honor my oath to myself never to leave helpless students with no help. Sure enough, the department head was telling young girls to come to his home alone to pick up their graduation degree. He only picked ones with no family nearby or none in the country. The female teachers with tenure told me. They knew I would stand up. They also knew as I did that it meant blowing up my career. The union rep that helped me found 13 and had to stop. She ran out of time. The man was moved off campus and given a raise and more authority. I heard assistants were running for help against him. He was moved back to a campus and made a dean, with a raise. Thank God for my wonderful husband, our son, and good friends. I can never resurrect Franchesca Kohler who shot herself at my first graduate school. I have spent my life with normal training and assessment, college teaching, contracting with private firms and municipalities and as a diversity trainer, a sexual harassment specialist, a college teacher who has done pro bono consulting for many women, employees and students, who told horrible stories and asked for help. Now, I also do pro bono consulting for men who have been harassed, with my labor law knowledge.
