Monica's Story

Life Present: I live in Cairo, Egypt with my two young children working at the Embassy. Past: I worked with Ford Motor Company and studied economics at the University of Cologne. I have also studied in Chicago and Washington, D.C. and graduated with a dual degree in international political science and peace studies. I have traveled extensively through the United States and Europe including a New Year's vacation in Scandanavia. I love to study people, politics, culture, and the future. When I am not perched in front of my telescope, or writing a short story, I am dancing to drum and bass on the dance floor. Always reaching for the next level in my unsolved quest for true happiness. I have a tiny goal: to live on every continent of the world for at least six months. Three down and four to go. Who knows where the next road will lead.... Hope you are well and have found your path without too many bumps along the way. Can't wait to hear from you! Peace. College Wow! Everything happened so fast. I started at Madonna University and then transfered to Loyola Univ. Chicago where I entered as a psych major. Tempted by the travel bug I signed up for an internship in Washington, D.C. with a watchdog organization. My whole world was turned upside down when I visited the luminariae memorial at the Civil War Battelfield of Antietim, there were thousands and thousands of candles, one for every fallen soldier, and at that moment I decided to study peace negotiation. Moved back to Chicago and finished with a degree in International Political...Expand for more
Science and Peace studies with a minor in psych. I also finished some economics classes at the University of Cologne in Germany and just returned from graduate school at the University of Cape Town, South Africa studying biological and social anthropology. Workplace Present: US Department of State in the foreign service. Will find out in July 2007 where our first assignment will be. I specialize in Sub-Sharan Africa, refugees, conflict prevention, & resolution. Past: Even before I graduated I was offered a dual position with Ford Motor Company in their governmental affairs division working in the int'l govt affairs and corporate economics and strategic issues departments. It was tough to choose as I had an opportunity to work as an intern in the Irish Parliament on the Good Friday peace agreement, but not paid :( There are some days that I regret not taking the internship in Ireland, but hindsight is always 20/20 and ironically blind at the same time. My learning quotient grew exponentially with Ford and it continues to do so. I just returned from a year in Germany working with Ford and studying at the University of Cologne. Before these wonderful opportunities came about, I paid my dues. Everything from Taco Bell and auto parts delivery girl to a jazz radio station and the Red Cross. I even did a stint in the admissions office with the University of Chicago's Graduate School of Business and installed a telecommunications system at a chemical company. Temp jobs are the best I highly recommend them if you get bored very quickly.
