Monica's Story
Life
After graduating, I went to Muskegon Community College and then moved on to Western Michigan University (Go Broncos!) I graduated w/ a BA in Accounting. I had a couple of jobs in CPA firms, but figured out I wanted to have a life between January and April. So I started working in the private industry. About this time, I met my husband Doug (in a bar). We were married in 1994 in Kalamazoo. We moved to Detroit for awhile (yuck) and then moved to South Bend (slower than Hesperia!) That's where I got a job working for a real estate management company. We had a good time in South Bend, but decided that we wanted to move back to Kalamazoo. I have four kids - Jack (born in 1997), Max (2000), Lucy (2004) and Charlie (2006). We had trouble conceiving the first three. We were told we'd never have kids without the help of modern medicine, so we were QUITE surprised when Charlie came along. After weighing our options and looking at the cost of daycare, we decided that I could stay at home with the kids. So I retired in July 2006. This job is twice as hard as my last one!!!
Now, we have an internet based business and it's going pretty well. I can now put some more effort into it, since I don't have a day job. It's also allowed my husband and I to spend a lot of time together. That's somewhat of a rare commodity with four kids!
