Monica's Story
Life
January 2007
I have been a stay-at-home Mom for almost 3 years now. I got laid off from the nonprofit company I worked at for 12 years. It was very small and not enough income coming in to pay me.
While working at my job I got pregnant and she was born with Spina Bifida. It was hard being at work and worrying about her condition. Plus she had alot of check-ups and appointments that I had to take her to and the job was just interfering. It is a good thing though because now I don't have to worry about taking off work to take her to those types of things. She is doing very well at the age of 3. She is walking on her own with no walker or wheel chair like most kids are inclined to do with this disability.
Then about 6 months later I found out I was pregnant again. So here comes along another girl. Jackie...Expand for more
is normal but I had to go through a lot of extra testing because of my age and having a child previous with a disability. She is energetic and gets into everything.
I can forget to mention my older daughter Diana who is 13 and in the 8th grade. She is a good student who is always getting awards and is involved in her school musicals. Don't ask me why I waited so long to have another child, but nothing can beat having a live in babysitter.
I have been married to my husband Juan for 13 years and he works at Cottman Transmission. We attend Jerusalen Asamblea de Dios church here in Topeka. It is mostly hispanic speaking people there but I can understand quite a bit of what is being said. Plus my kids are going to be bi-lingual.
So that is my life as of now. Sorry I don't have any pictures of me to share.
