Monika's Story

Life My husband and I have recently celebrated our 10 year anniversary by going to Hawaii! We have two beautiful children, a 6 year old boy, Noah and a 3 year old daughter, Peyton. Two dogs, and my mom lives in the basement. We lived all over the Peuget Sound until 5 years ago when we moved to Pierce County and have settled down. School I can't say who my biggest crush was back then it varied so often...hmm David Roper, Dan Greenwood, Billy DeVore, David Gibson and I'm sure the list would go on and on. The teacher that inspired me the most? Probably Ms. Briedenbach, but I LOVED Punky Omeg. If I could do it all over again knowing what I know now and weighing what I did after high school, then I would at least do Junior/Senior year over again! I have too many crazy memories to spill from high school. Cari Tafoya duct taped to a chair in the cafeteria, Gibson pantsing me at the flag pole, miser mondays, Summers at Lawrence Lake, having "social events"at Maggy Gorman's house. My 15th birthday when Tracy Veness, Laura Wesen and Loretta Hensiek scared the crap out me in the Yelm Cemetary with a fake body, what good friends ;0). College My college life was kind of boring. I spent two years attending Pierce College and then transfered to St. Martin's, where I got a great education, but not much partying. But rather than feeling left out, I headed up to Bellingham for the weekends at Western with Maggy and the Tammies! Workplace ...Expand for more
I have spent the last 12 years as a state employee...Yikes! Initially, after college I was working as a pre-Kindergarten teacher at a day care in Redmond WA making a little more than minimum wage, which on the "eastside" of king county is poverty level. I then got a job with in my degree, working at Echo Glen Children's Center, which is a lovely name for a juvenile prison. I spent three months there working intermittent schedule, until I was hired perminant at another juvenile institution with an equally deceptive name of Indian Ridge youth camp. I worked there for 3 years, where I received a street wise education by the boys that were serving time there. I learned how to make home made alcohol from fruit juice, they called that pruno, I learned that these young boys improvise very well, they will roll cigarettes from stolen tabacco and bible pages and make their own sex toys called fifi's...YUK. I learned a lot of defensive tactics as these boys were not the nicest kids all the time and how to track them if they escaped...Being a Yelm girl came in handy for that. I then went to work in the community as a jvuenile parole office and spent 7 years doing that. Once I decided to move to Pierce County I got a job with the Department of Corrections and have been working as a "parole officer" although it's called Community Corrections Officer now,for the last five years. I am currently working in Pierce County Sex Offender supervision unit.
