Monique's Story

Life Well let's see....I have been married 15 years this month. To a great guy I met in the Navy. We have a 14 year old son a 8 year old son and a 7 year old son and one truly bizarre cat! My husband is a dedicated fighting Seabee (naval construction team) he is still active duty and will be reaching his 16th year in Nov. 06. My husband was in Iraq for 9 months at the onset of the war...It was the hardest thing I have ever lived through in my life keep in mind that seabees until recently had a 7/7 duty 7 months deployment overseas 7 months home. This was the first time that my husbands life has ever been in danger. My life has centered around my husband and my children for this time I don't think I ever wanted to be more than supermom/wife. One of the those women who learned a lot just to make sure she could keep up with her children..... School Never had much of a crush on anyone in high school. There some nice and not so nice people at Jefferson High School. My 3 all time favorite teachers were Mrs. Cooper for English, Mrs. Froebe and Mrs. Crosby for the Financial services academy. Workplace Before we transferred back to Portland Oregon for my husbands turn at recruiter duty I was the group reservations clerk for the Port Hueneme BOQ. For anyone who might be a government employee or military. That means when you had schools (DAU) or training courses in large classes or commands you had to call me first. I loved the job because (yes I am bragging!) I was really good at it. Unfortunately I transferred in the middle of being asked to take the supervisory position but where my man goes I will follow. That's the way a military marriage survives. Sacrifice, Sacrifice, Love and Sacrifice until the big 20 and then you get a shot and settling down... I currently work from home as a finance specialist for a finance company. It is boring and repetitive but I love it becau...Expand for more
se I get to be home with my kids and the money is decent too.! LOL Military I joined the Navy in August 1989 went to boot camp in Orlando FL the hottest place I had ever been in my life! I graduated from bootcamp on Oct 13, 1989(the Navy's birthday) 2 extra hours at attention and then parade rest people were dropping like flies! After boot camp I went to EN (engineman) A school (suckered by my recruiter I don't know and engine from a muffler) I was there from Oct 29,1989 to February 1990. Left there and went to my first duty station aboard the USS Dixon As-37. I actually saw someone I recognized that was the LPO in the Engineroom when I was on that ship here! I was a fresh air snipe worked in the Emergency Diesel B&C with some of my favorite people EN1 Ognita (oggie) and kick ass Senior Chief Esau( Master chief of the Tarawa before I got out.) Got pregnant and left the boat in April 1991 for 32nd navsta Donnelly hall front desk gave birth to a very early 4 lb 9 oz baby boy in august 1991 and then went to the USS Acadia AD-42 I was only there 4 months when it came down to a choice between my husband's first deployment (fiancee at the time) and going on my first 6 month deployment and leaving my infant son again ( I was attached to a ship and my husband was going to a deployable billet so he spent 4 months away from me in Oregon) couldn't do it again so I took my parenthood discharge married my man and left the navy with a 3.8 eval and an honorable discharge in 1992. Looking at my boys and seeing what my husband has been able to accomplish as a seabee I don't regret my decision for 1 minute! I miss the fun of a fast cruise at time and fleet week but the trade off is being able to see my children grow up. Something I know that the soldiers and sailors on board ship and on land wish they could have one more minute off each time they have to leave.....
