Morris's Story
This picture is how I looked about 6 months ago. Rowdy, my fifth Golden Retriever, has grown to about a 100 lbs., but I'm still holding at about 220 lbs., as I have for the last 15 years. I also have Bear who use to be my fishing buddy, but he's 13 now and prefers to just eat and lay around. Still got all my hair, but it's pretty grey now. I've been playing alot of golf the last few years and that is always a very humbling experience. Expensive golf clubs and still have trouble breaking 90 on 18 holes. I have one daughter who's 24 now and lives in Austin. Worked as a stockbroker for Merrill Lynch, Pierce Fenner & Smith from 1973 - 1975 in Dallas, Texas, moved to Fort Stockton in 1975 and became a West Texas Petroleum Landman at just the same time as Dubya was learning and we became friends and worked on some joint ventures together. I moved to Shreveport, La. as Regional Land Manager for Transc...Expand for more
ontinental Oil Corporation in December, 1980, then to Houston in 1981 as Vice President/Land Manager for Chambers Oil & Gas, LLC. The Oil & Gas business started dying out so I moved to Austin and was hired on by Rotan Mosle/Paine Webber, Inc. in 1984-1987 to try my hand again at picking stocks for clients (stockbroker). Should be a millionaire, but, just never got the timing right for me or my clients.
I regret any and all money I lost for myself and friends. Been a Petroleum Landman since then and so happy with this vocation and count myself as very lucky to have had some great and very successful (and rich) mentors and employers. Galveston and Nacogdoches are both home to me now, although I'm usually working out of a hotel room on leasing projects and am presently in the upper Texas Gulf Coast area. I just finished a one year stint way down South in Duval County. Has it really been 40 years?
