Murray's Story
Life:
I grew up on Morrish Road in Highland Creek. .....
After graduation from West Hill C.I. in 1959, I was hired by The Canadian Bank of Commerce (now CIBC), starting in Highland Creek. In 1962 I was transferred to Nassau, Bahamas, where, outside banking hours, I played drums in a local band (The Nassauvians) for about 3 years.(Fortunately, I didn't quit my day job). I met Elaine (Kemp) in Nassau in '63 and we were married in '65.
We moved around with postings in Freeport, Cayman, Jamaica, 4 years back in Toronto (76-80) and Barbados, where I retired as General Manager, Credit Risk Management for the W. Indies in March,2000.
I was rehired by the Bank in Nassau in August, 2000 on contract as a Credit Consultant, retired for a second time (November, 2005) and was invited back to the Bank (now CIBC FirstCaribbean International Bank) in 2006 as a Cre...Expand for more
dit Consultant. After a couple of attempts, at the end of 2012 I began my 4th (& final) retirement.
We have 3 beautiful daughters - all married (1 living in Nassau, 1 in Abaco and 1 in Bowmanville, Ontario) - and (as of May 2011) 6 grandchildren. I stay active in the Rotary Club of East Nassau and the Antique Auto Club of the Bahamas (am a Past President of each of those clubs and am Secretary of the Antique Auto Club). ..... I was Assistant District Governor for the Rotary Clubs of The Bahamas for 2 years (2005-2007) and have held various District 7020 positions in recent years. I still keep in touch with a number of my West Hill classmates and my "best friends" from the Dynatones Rod & Custom Club (formed in '58 in Scarborough), get back to Toronto at least once a year and really enjoy High School Reunions, Family Reunions and Antique Car Shows.
