Murray's Story

Hey, Got to the Rodgers land at 5:50am. It was a perfect morning, plenty of owls and crows lighting up the sky, plenty of load noises to shock a deaf gobbler. Pat and i was astonished, 6:45 no turkeys within hearing distance. We sat down on a log and ate breakfeast, waiting on one to gobble. We headed to the long ridge to see if something would scream at us over their. Got to the long ridge at 7:20. While we were walking to a listening spot one screamed off in a distance, both of us coursed him to the left side power line. The next gobble was right side power line. Pat and I looked at each other, is that two birds or did we miss judge the sound? We decided, missed judge the gobbles. Gobbleeeeeeocococ!!! we got him located right side power line, we set up at the brake. The old gobbler would not answer my cuts, I was having to call alot to keep him inerested. After about 30 minutes he came to the power line and acted like he was committed to come. The old gobbler got hung up again so Pat and I decided to get closer, we moved to the b...Expand for more
ottom next to the big branch and set up, I got 30 yards behind Pat for he was the shooter. After my first series of cuts and yelps we were in business. The vibration of his drumming was so loud i figured Pat should be firing off a shot. After Pat didn't shot, I decided to do some soft yelps to move him in a little closer. Gobbleeeeeocococ!!! to my left and gobbleeeeocococacacac!!! to my right, two gobblers we didn't miss judge the first time. The ground was vibrating from all directions, these turkeys are close, 50 yards to my left, 30 yards to my right. The Turkey to my right came out from behind a falling log still waiting on Pat to shoot, gobbleeeeeeeocococ!!! left, gobbleeeeeococococ!!! right, at this point I was on the bobing and weaving wight head with the bead of my 870 Rem.Super magnum, still waiting on Pat to shoot I let this bird walk few more yards for he was heading to the other gobbler to fight for his sweet hens. Gobleeeeeococococ!!! left, gobbleeeeococococ!!! right, Booooooooom!!! 17lb, 10 inch beard, 7/8 sharpe spurs. Murray
