Myra's Story
Life
I graduated from Oberlin College in 1968 as a biology major and joined the Peace Corps. I spent the next two years in Ghana in West Africa as a biology teacher. On my way home I stopped to see Inger Hovslokken Medhus in Norway. I immediately started a graduate program at the U.of Chicago and received my Master of Arts in Teaching in 1971. I taught for two years in Flint Michigan where I met my husband Linc Janus. We returned to Chicago and I taught middle school for several years in Winnetka, before having children. We have 3 children, ages 15, 21, 24. Alex is a grad student in sociology at U of Wisconsin; Liz is a physics major at Haverford College and is currently in Greece for a semester, and Nick is a high school freshman. oordinator for the public schools in Evanston, IL and also write grants.My husband worked as a corporate lawyer for years in the telecommunications industry and recently retired to go back to school and earn credentials to teach high school English. I have seen Inger several times since leaving high school. She comes to the states fairly regularly and I have been to Norway two times and intend to return. We like to travel and have trips planned this year to Greece and to England where my sister currently lives and where Nick and his choir will be on tour, singing at St. Paul's Cathedral in August.
Life has been full of challenges: a premature baby (now 24), a mother with Alzheimers (now deceased) and my husband's Lymphoma (now healthy). Our dads are both 92 - hard to believe.
