Myron's Story
Life
Let's see; Graduated in 81 with no plan. Wandered for 3 years, Pekin to Colorado. Joined the Army to figure out what I DIDN'T want to do. Ended up doing it anyway. Lived in Sierra Vista, AZ. for 8 years, had one child(Girl), spent time in New Mexico and Florida, then moved to Chincoteague VA. Everything was fried, gained 30 pounds, lasted 3 years there working Data Links for the Navy. Went to the first Desert Storm as a Civilian supporting the Air Force. saw a LOT of stuff blow up. Wife popped out another child(Boy).
Moved to San Diego, Ca. doing some more work for the Navy. Rode a LOT of ships, saw way too much of the world. Got divorced. Coulda been worse.
Stayed single for 7 years. 7..years. Single is/was good. Anyway, got re-married in 2001. Gained yet another child(boy) and 2 dogs. Celebrated 5 years of marriage back in August.
Graduated from College, FINALLY, in 2007. Same year my daighter graduated from High School. Only took me, what, 26 years? Work for the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command, SPAWAR, out in San Diego. I'm a Supervisor for Integrati...Expand for more
on and Test and Evaluation of Command and Control Systems. I used to ride ships, now I send other people out to do it.
I'm doing the best I can not to ruin my kids. I guess we'll see. Have one in College, one that knows EVERYTHING and one that wants to join the Marines when he graduates. Let's hope the World calms down in the next two years.
Workplace
Career arc? Captain D's to K-Mart(81-82). Got fired. Odd jobs, Korsemeyers(83). Quit and moved to Colorado Springs(83). Milk Man! Life was good, if not frozen. Joined the Army(84-88); E-5 in two years, no career progression. Got out and became a Technician(88-93), Bell Technologies, then DynCorp, then GEC Marconi. Must have lied because I got a job supporting the Navy and an underway technician(93-2000). 7 years of that and Y2K. Hit the wall. Burn out. Took the desk job everyone dreads(2000-Present). I get to mingle, get technical if I want, hire and fire, Mentor College kids, fill out forms, brief new technologies. Who can complain. I'm a GS-15, or, in teh new National Security Personnel System (NSPS) I'm a YA-03. Go Team!
