Nancy Stuehler:

CLASS OF 1966
Baltimore, MD

Nancy's Story

I cannot believe it has been 50 years. I certainly don't feel it has been that long although with some bumps in the road, I guess it has been. A year after graduation I married Charles (Chuck) Hoffner, class of '65. One month after we married he was deployed to Viet Nam for 18 months. During that time my only sibling, Gary, was killed in an accident which was devastating for the family. I was working at Bethlehem Steel, which at that time, was a pretty good office job. I was involved in a major explosion while there which totaled our office building and scared the you know what out of me. Once Chuck came home from Viet Nam, he was assigned to Langley Field, Virginia, where we moved for 2 years. He was constantly out of the country but the area was really nice and I kept busy with working and part time modeling jobs. We came back to Baltimore and I worked for Noxell in Hunt Valley for 17 years. Chuck and I divorced after 10 years of marriage. Viet Nam took a toll on him emotionally. During my single years I was working 3 jobs. Noxell full time, graphic painting in private homes and aerobic instructor for a national firm. I had a great circle of friends who I still get together with. I was living a happy single life and along came this crazy caterer, Tom Stuehler, who owned La Fontaine Bleue. He wined and dined me. We took some vacation...Expand for more
s and after 6 years I bit the bullet and we married in 1991. We are still together going on 31 years, married 25 of them. I never had children, but Tom has 3 and 6 grandkids, which has been great. We have traveled all over the world and have experienced so many great places, but we work extremely hard and long hours. I have been involved with the catering business since before we married. We have opened new businesses and sold some too. We have nursed each other through sorrow and surgeries. We live in Brooklynville/Lutherville in a home that Tom built in 1974, with my 89 year old mother. It is huge with too many rooms now and who's idea was it any way to have koi ponds and waterfalls and a swimming pool. When you travel and see all the wonders you want to bring it home. Now that you have it all, you don't want it any more. We have been trying to downsize, but it has been a frustrating housing market. Maybe, this will be the year to simplify and spend some more years traveling before we get too old to move! I have run into some class mates here and there over the years and somehow they have not changed at all. Jesse Hannon, Joanne Deleo, who is married still to Joe Galliazzo. Fifty years doesn't seem so long because time seemed to stand still experiencing a great life in spite of it's ups and downs. You can't keep a Dundalk girl down!!!
