Nancy's Story

Life This thing says that your bio can't exceed 4000 characters so I will make it short and sweet. After I graduated from CHS in 1962, I worked for Hartford Insurance Company in Jackson until I met and married Tommy Watkins, who was in the Air Force and stationed at Crystal Springs (who even knew there was a base there?) We met at the old bowling alley at Mart 51. We were married July 1, 1966, after dating 6 weeks! After he got out of the Air Force, we moved to Nashville, TN., where his family lived. I went to work for a bank in Nashville for 23 years before leaving to stay home with my children, who were 7 and 12 at the time. By that time, my husband owned a couple of Piggly Wiggly Stores. We lived in Nashville until he retired in July,2000. He was originally from Birmingham, Alabama and since our daughter, Kim, had gone to school at UA (Roll Tide!) and after graduation, married and stayed in Tuscaloosa, we decided to move here too. Our son, Steve, was starting to college that year and planned to go to UA also. He is now almost finished with his Masters in Education so he can teach social science and coach basketball. My main social activity is going to the games he coaches. Kim now has a 5 year old daughter, Taylor, and since her husband has been transferred, has moved first to Dallas and now to Tampa so we do a lot more traveling than we used to. Fo...Expand for more
r those of you who have not seen me since 1962, I am no longer skinny as a stick and of course do not have long blonde hair either. The hair was cut senior year but people always expect it to still be the same for some reason. I still like to draw and paint from time to time, do some craft things and my sport is walking. Of course, living in Tuscaloosa and being an Alabama fan, I spend a lot of time watching ballgames starting with football and going through basketball. My husband plays golf a few days a week. We usually make a trip or two to Gulf Shores since we now live so close. I do love the beach! I stay in touch with a few of my fellow 1962 graduates - mainly Linda Roberts Bounds, Judy Hales Borthwick and Millie Wilson Dukes. We try to get together once a year and go on a little girls only trip for a few days down to the Coast. I usually stay in Jackson for a day or two and visit a few old buddies like Jimmy Hawkins before we leave town. Judy and Linda keep me posted on the people still in Jackson that they run into so I do hear a little about old classmates from time to time. I also hear from Linda Shank Stone, Myra Grant Stansill, Frank Chambers, and Dwight Pate via email. I try to go to every reunion or All Class Reunion so I do get to see some people every few years. It's always so good to see everyone! Nancy Charlesworth Watkins
