Life My photo depicts me on the left, my mother Sonja Elzey in the center, & sister Kathleen Elzey Martin on the right. We were at an Elzey family reunion at Lake Tippecanoe on July 14, 2007. I retired from Verizon after 28 years in 2006. My husband, Scott, retired from Verizon after 30 years in 2003. We did serious renovation of our own house that year and found that we had a nack for it. This gave us the idea to start our family business, Z Family Enterprises, LLC. We purchase foreclosed houses that we either flip or keep for rental properties. We and our children do the work ourselves, which provides for good family time, money in their pockets, excellent source of exercise, and keeps us from being bored in retirement. We golf almost year round at Trophy Club Country Club, where we have been members since the early 1990s. We take our golf clubs on most vacations and have played all around the US, England, Scotland, Ireland, and France. My husband is also the business manager for Colby Beckstrom, a young man from Muskegon, MI trying to make a living in professional golf. In 2005 he golfed in the Byron Nelson Classic as an amateur, then went pro and played in the Buick Open. He has been to Q School twice and will go again this year. Scott caddies for him in many of his tournaments, including the Ultimate Challenge ($50K entry fee / $2M purse) in Las Vegas this past May. Colby lost a playoff and ended up first runner up. Heartbreaking! I love to garden and spend many hours designing, planting, weeding, and enjoying my creations. Our latest additions were 1500 pounds of flagstone and low-voltage lighting. One of my functions with our family business is to keep abreast of the latest trends in homes and gardens. We try these trends out on our own home first, then incorporate them into the flip / rental houses. We also enjoy travel, spending time with the family, and charity work. Family: Scott and I have three children: Jasmine Queen Elzey Morrow Escalante (B: 1976), Bradley Scott Zimmerman (B: 1979), and David Alan Zimmerman (B: 1985). Scott and I married in 1990 and the children were 13, 11, and 5. They have always gotten along beautifully. My left kidney was found to be non-functioning in 1980 and was removed. My urologist strongly suggested that I not have more children, which could potetially damage my right kidney. I have always felt fortunate that I had Jasmine at such a young age (17) before my kidney problems surfaced. We are very proud of each of them. Scott grew up on the Zimmerman family farm outside the tiny town of Forrest, IL. His parents were adamant that he not be a farmer. He got BA and MBA degrees at Illinois State Univ in Bloomington, IL. While in college, he was hired at GTE. During his 30 year career he mowed lawns at the Central Offices, was a janitor, a draftsman, then worked his way up to VP.
