Nancy's Story
I graduated from the U of M in the midst of the Oil Crisis Recession of the early 70’s, My degree was in Food Science and Nutrition but, as anyone else graduating at that time found, jobs were not plentiful. d not too small. It is not the sleepy little town that many might remember from childhood vacations. It made the Minnesota Monthly Best Minnesota Town in 2018.
We live on an approximately 2 wooded acres in a newer development just outside the city. The neighborhood is a nice mix of young families as well as retirees like us. It took us a few years to get over our culture shock after so many years in Minneapolis—no traffic, crime is pretty much confined to persons who are acquainted and just an overall quality of life. Bemidji has a large retiree population, many formerly from the Twin Cities. We’ve been able to make acquaintances with fellow boomers.. I’m enjoying retirement immensely and never at a loss for things to do.
