Nancy's Story
Life
Moved the whole family to California in 1992. But still a New Englander at heart. On my own now, so the East Coast is calling my name. So updating my profile....maybe I'll see you when I get back!
Workplace
Been working forty plus years as a a registered nurse, though it doesn't seem that long. Arriving on the West Coast in '92, I began working in the operating room as a circulator and covering the OR manager's job when she was on vacation for a six room day-surgery center and took on a teaching role, preparing other RNs in classroom and clinical settings to become perioperative nurses. I worked as the surgery center's quality assurance coordinator, involving myself in all aspects of the center. I also work as a perioperative nurse call for a fertility center on Saturdays, which is very rewarding.
About six years ago, I switched to working at the VA hospital here. I am now officially an educator for the OR and other perioperative areas. I'm teaching nurses to be OR nurses again and enjoying every minute. I also get to work with the new RN grads coming into the VA for their first nursing jobs.
Fun!
I'm trying to stay active (aren't we all!). So hiking and swimming when have the time.
East Coast Traveling
I come out every summer for at least two weeks. Usually I rent a cottage in Onset near the ocean....I miss the ocean, being two hours of traffic away from it, here in Sacramento. I also try to come out at Thanksgiving for the dinner (of course) and shopping with my sisters on Black...Expand for more
Friday and some seafood or pizza lunches with my brothers!
Faith
My whole life is very centered around my faith and church family here. I do alot of volunteering, teaching / substituting in the children's Sunday School, helping in a Bible study small group and visiting some of our older church members. I am also on the Mission committee and have been fortunate enough to go to Thailand to help in an orphanage and to Cambodia a couple of times to help a school there. We also were able to do medical clinics and eye glass clinics, seeing about 150 people a day. I loved Cambodia where I got to teach an English class for the teens' class. Also took a trip to Mali Afirca to help move an OR from one building to another across the mission compound. The last trip was to Bangledesh to help the Rohingya refugees. Lots of stories; very rewarding.
Family
Both of my sons have given me grandchildren to spoil. Joel is a CHP officer (California Highway Patrol / like a State Trooper in Massachusetts) with two girls and one boy, Jared is a correctional officer at Folsom Prison and has a son and daughter. My family here is the only thing keeping me here on this coast. But I'm hoping to retire in Massachusetts, with visits to California, as often as I can. I plan to move in 2022, barring any obstacles.
Guess I got a little wordy! LOL!
Write me a note, tell me what you are doing!
Nancy
PS- Fully retired! Moved to Wareham in September 2022, bought a wonderful house just 100ft from the ocean. Life is good!
