Nancy's Story

I have no idea what to write because I have no idea what people would be interested in. So I'll be flying blind here. Well, right after High School I got a job in a factory in Andover. That lasted about three or four months because (and this is the truth) I worked my but off and some of the other employees took offense. Said it wasn't peace work around there and I should slow down. Had confrontation with their so called 'leader' (I don't back down) and she wasn't too happy. I went home and thought about it and figured I could do without all the drama. So I quit. But not after giving the boss and earful. Then worked in an office as clerk for about another three or four months before getting married and moving to Maine. Had my son Allen (was born an adorable toe head and all the nurses fawned over him). As did his adoring mom and dad and grandparents. Stayed in marriage for five years until I got the nerve to stop denying the fact that I was gay. The man I was married to was really a very nice guy. He was sweet and mostly considerate and had a really great family. I still miss them. Went through a period of full blown alcoholism from 84' to 86'. Not a very long time (I think) but I drank straight vodka and made myself pretty sick. Went into rehab blah blah blah. At some point during all this I went to school for dental assisting. Graduated 2nd in class. Tried my hand at but found I didn't like it. Would have preferred to go into prosthetics instead. Tried my hand at various office jobs over next few years then moved to Wisconsin to do some evangelizing. Had joined a 'church' and committed one year. At annual send off for the one year commitment was named head member of family of nine by elders. On way to Wisconsin had very bad car accident. Four members died and one left brain dead for life. So, we're off to a great start. Remaining members still went to Wisconsin hoping to make a difference. It didn't work out. After the house caught on fire I tucked my tail and headed home. day. After returning to Maine got a job with a growing company and strayed there 13 or 14 years. One of the owners was truly a great guy and I had privilege of working closely with him. Company ended up being bought out and I moved on. Ended up coming back to Woburn when mom got really sick. Was with her about a year before she passed. Now I live in Methuen and my son and his girlfriend live with me. I have 2 small dog's and one adorable guinea pig. So that's a brief description of my doings and whereabouts for past 30 some odd years. I blow off steam by finding a quiet place where I can meditate. The wildest thing I remember doing in school was one time smoking in the girl's room. Ya, go ahead a laugh. My hero is most definitely my mom. She was a tenacious little bugger who would defend her own to the utmost. And that included me. Thank God I had her in my life to protect me from MYSELF! The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is Beverly B., because I admired her. Hmmm, my obsessions. Well my son and my pets for sure. I don't so much like Reality T.V. unless it's a documentary. Like to watch Bones, Saving Grace, The Closer and The LWord. My biggest surprise in life: realizing I was gay. What have I learned from Allen: Well, the older he get's the stupider I get. (As he see's it that is.) Which teacher would I love to see again. Well there are at least a few. Can't remember all their names. Some are Miss Evans from Jr. High Gym Class, Mr. Sheridan for High School English Class, Mrs. Walsh from 2nd grade, Scott - 10th grade Biology teacher, also my 10th grade Geometry teacher but I can't remember her name. If I won $100 million, I'd give 20% of it to Charities, then spend the rest on Allen, retirement and other people I love. My current age is 49. When I was 12, I thought that people my age now would be so altogether. I was so completely dreaming. My first crush worked on a cruise ship. He ended up back in Indonesia. If I got one do-over what would I do differently: Accept who I am a lot sooner.
