Nancy's Story
Life
Grew up poor and physically abused though back then it was ignored, and the broken bones were called accidents. I partied lots to escape my harsh life, tried just about every drug known to man. I had ditched school so much I didn't have the attendance credits needed to participate in the ceremonies, so two months before graduation 1979 I went to La Puente Valley adult schools and got my GED with State of CA honors for passing it so highly. I am now a mother of 4, have been married for 21 yrs, I have a BA in Fine Arts, BS in Accounting, AA in general studies and am working on my Masters in both Fine Arts and Accounting. It may sound like complaining when I recount my life but actually I say what I've been through as on of my experiences & accomplishments, because I survived. I am stronger for the experience although I wish the experience on no one. But all the counciling I went through so as not to become an abuser myself, has given me insight to a lot of things in life. My children have graduated as Honor students or are currently Honor students, one is presently in college and one in High school. T...Expand for more
hey are, I am happy to say beautiful, sweet, loving, giving and compassionate girls as well as being my life's greatest work of art.
School
Well what can I say, I was a dork in school yet I had many friends. The popular kids in school were my friends also as long they weren't in their little 'clic'. Everyone knew me or knew of me, I was an excellent dancer and really goofy most of the time. I loved making people laugh, (I still do). I can't say I have fond memories of those younger days, kids can be very cruel, and for some of us things said or done to us become baggage we carry all our life. Or we spend our life trying to rid ourselves of the pain of growing up. I dressed and looked 'dorky' because my family was poor and we couldn't afford for me to look 'to good for everyone else' which made me one of the 'Dorky & unpopular' kids. Even though I was going to school with all my friends I had grown up in the same neighborhood with. Aside from the meanies, I had many many friends at HP and they were the ones that got me through all the crap. You know who you are and to you go my heart felt thanks. Nan
