Nancy's Story

After SRHS, I went to San Jose State College for two years and then I transferred to Chico State College, and graduated sum laude with a degree in Sociology. I did enjoy my studies, but I was very social in college and have wonderful fun memories. I then went to the University of Maine and was a graduate teaching assistant but taught my own class of about 100 students each semester before earning my Master's Degree. I met and married my husband of 53 years, Jeff Rothman, at U of M. Jeff and I went to the Philippines for 4 years for Jeff to earn his veterinarian degree. We loved living overseas and I was lucky to be able to work at the International School, teaching Sociology and Psychology, and then becoming head Guidance Counselor, and Assistant Principal. We returned to the States with our 1 year old son, and lived on Long Island for the next 40 years . Our daughter arrived the first year after being back in the U.S. Jeff and I have had long satisfying work in our different fields. I obtained my Ph.D.. in Sociology at Stony Brook University.. dited, Gender and Work in the Global World. I worked in a variety of roles at Stony Brook, with an administrative focus. I mainly creatied new academic and support programs for under-represented groups of students on campus. As Assistant Vice-Provost, I introduced a new expanded Evening College for part-time evening students, and developed the first SUNY articulation agreement with two-year colleges in our area to improve many of the glitches that happen to transfer students , I also created a First-Year Student Initiative to improve low retention rates of low-income minority students. We are now retired, living in The Villages, FL and really enjoying our very active fun life here, and meeting people from all over the country. We have 5 fabulous grandkids who all live in CT, and they come visit a lot and we go see them for long visits as well. My daughter is a Middle School social studies teacher, and is now Interim Vice Principal at her school.. My son, Scott Rothman, is a writer (he wrote Draft Day starring Kevin Costner, and a series of children's books). Life is good. I have absolutely wonderful good memories of SRHS!!
