Nancy's Story
Life
Where to start? I have been a newspaper reporter and editor, and am now a pediatric hospital social worker. However, I still love theater and dance, and continue to take--and teach--dance classes and to choreograph musical theater productions. Most recently, I choreographed the Washington, DC premier of a show called "The Musical of Musicals," which received rave reviews from all the critics, so you may see my name again in the future! I live in Maryland with my sweet husband Quinn (I married at age 37, no kids) and three cats. We did a tap dance at our wedding in 1995, choreographed by yours truly, my pianist was Alex Rybeck and my singer was Michael Shapiro. Brian Eggleston made a great video of it. I love to keep in touch with old friends - send me an email! Several of you have already tracked me down....
College
I worked for five years as a newspaper reporter and editor and enjoyed it, but never really planned to do it forever. I was dancing quite a lot at the time and left writing to spend more time performing, teaching dan...Expand for more
ce, and choreographing musicals. I did temp work to supplement my income and eventually returned to school for my master;s degree in social work. I have been a social worker for the past nine years. I work at Children's Hospital, in a job which has the flexibility for me to continue doing shows!
Workplace
I am a social worker in the Orthopedics department; a busy job where I do many different things in the course of a day. I was a newspaper journalist for my first career and have always kept my feet in my true love, dancing and musical theater. Since high school I have performed, taught dancing, and choreographed shows around the DC area. Right now I am doing shows at Haverford College in Philadelphia as well. I learned long ago that I was not the kind of person who would have the same job for my whole career. At least it has not been boring! The down side is that I tend to scatter my work energy and not commit wholeheartedly to any one aspect of my work life. it is more important to me to play than to work. My inner child rules!
