Nancy's Story

Well. life has been a challenge. Some good and some not. I really enjoy catching up with old friends and have reconnected with a few in recent years. I find it so interesting to learn what path's former acquaintences have followed in life. I have lived in Winnipeg for close to 30 years and recently discovered an old WCI classmate has also been here for several years. We met this past summer for lunch and it was if the clock had been turned back. Turns out our lives have had some interesting parallels along the way. We plan to meet again when time allows. I ended up a federal civil servant, now retired and with a very busy life. I have travelled alot in recent years, often on my own. I've had quite the adventures away from home! More to follow when I'm ready to share more detail... Greetings to all old friends. I would love to hear from you! I always wanted to be a movie star when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a bit unrealistic idea. As it turns out, they were right... However, not to be deterred, once I retired I did manage to get on a few film sets. Not as a star but rather as an extra. After a few movies, the novelty wore off when I realized how NOT glamorous it was. And I retired from that too. I will never regret the experiences I had in my "acting" career. I was quite fascinated by the whole process of movie making and I did get to see a few real movie stars up closer than a theatre or tv screen. By far the nicest and most caring individual was Patrick Swayze. He was the only "star" who ever took time to even acknowledge the extras on set. So sad that this wonderful actor has been struck by cancer. I am living part time in Toronto these days and loving being back in the old home town. Best wishes to all of my former classmates as we all tackle the challenges of growing older. And now the question of weird job(s)!! My first real summeer job was in a seed factory counting seed packets. Next I worked in a darkroom splicing together 35mm slide film in to huge long reels for processing. And one summer I was secretary to a private eye. Yep a real live detective, who even drove a big fancy convertible like the guys on "77 Sunset Strip". Alas however his cases were not particularly exciting and I decided to continue on with my education once summer ended. I sure would be curious to hear how others respond to the wierd job category. Well, I hope to hear from someone fro...Expand for more
m the past sometime again soon. I just loved the WCI reunion awhile back. Nancy My first day at Brookhaven PS My Mom walked me there. I still remember she wore a yellow sweater. She asked if I thought I could find my way home on my own - about a 10 minute walk. I dont suppose too many 5 yr olds would be allowed such a priveledge today. I dont get to my own story very often and it is n need of an update for sure. I am on my own now, except of course for Miss Belinda my beautiful kitty. I have been in poor health and unfortunately do not really look like my posted "now" photo, taken a year ago. I will be putting up a new photo as soon as I find one that is not too scary. I am still in Winnipeg and will be here for the foreseeable future. With my Mom now 94 and myself the only family close by I need to be in the city to which I was transplanted so many years ago. My time in Toronto last year was wonderful, but the timing was wrong, given the health issues that come along with fibromyalgia. I feel so fortunate to have been able to travel on my own before my health declined. But for now I am happy to stay put just where I am. Regards to all old a new friends. In January of this year I lunched with another WCI student who contacted me. Although we were contemporaries at WCI we had never actually met until 2010. Lunch was fun and it was most enjoyable sharing memories of classmates and experiences. Bravo to the Classmates site as once again it has helped folks like myself meet up with the past. I hope 2010 brings happiness to all. Nancy Now well in to 2010 and summer is on the way out. The geese arrived in wpg last week and so the cold weather will soon arrive. Turns out the past 8 yrs of challenging health for me were not due to fibromyalgia at all but rather Lyme disease. Not properly treated, for so long it is now considered chronic. A real political/medical "hot potato". My daughter and family moved to Wpg late last year and what a joy to have them nearby. I hope I can soon post pics of my amazing grandkids ranging in age from 6 months to 15 yrs. All 6 of them!! Looks like those pics of my kids must wait til I can figure out how to get them of of my cell phone!! Just slightly tech challenged! 10 years on...now 70 year old Canlyme warrior. 10 apartments in 10 years....2 years in assisted living...I graduated from there 2 years ago and happily finally set up in a great location in Winnipeg.
